At first, you may think solar panels are useless in the UK with our consistently terrible weather! However, solar panels only producing electricity on a sunny day is a complete myth. In fact, any form of daylight is able to generate solar energy meaning they still work on a cloudy day.

For the most part, you will not need planning permission to install solar panels on your personal or commercial property.  However, Solar panels will need permission to installed on:

  • Flat roof properties
  • Conservations areas
  • Listed buildings

Solar panels tend to last between 25 to 30 years making them a long-term investment for lowering your carbon-footprint and reducing your energy costs. Solar panel inverters tend to last less with most models having a lifetime of around 10 to 12 years.
